INTRODUCTION :

  • Founded in 1826 – England's third oldest university.

The undergraduate entry requirement is A*AA–ABB (depending on the degree).

FEES STRUCTURE :

  • The tuition fees for full-time UK and other EU students beginning their undergraduate studies at English universities in 2012 have been announced. The average fee across all universities will be £8,393 as compared to that for 2011 entry of £3,375.
  • To offset this increase in fee levels, there will be additional financial support for students from lower income families and other groups not well represented in higher education. This will be in the form of fee waivers, grants, bursaries and scholarships, and accommodation discounts.
  • It is a comprehensive package of income and expenditure but most of the media coverage has concentrated on the cost and not enough on the benefits and help.
  • Students resident in Wales will receive a non-repayable Fee Grant equal to the fee amount above £3,465, no matter where in the UK they study.

TEACHING STANDARDS :

  • An emphasis on small-group teaching with an overall staff to student ratio of 1:9.
  • Achievement of first class or upper second class honors by 84% of undergraduate students (2010).

RESEARCH STANDARDS :

  • In the vast majority of UCL's submissions to RAE 2008, at least 50% of the staff submitted were ranked at either the highest grade of 4* ('of world-leading quality') or 3* ('internationally excellent').

ACADEMIC STRENGTHS :

  • High-quality research is key in undergraduate teaching – the most up-to-date research discoveries, developments and ideas are incorporated into program mes.
  • Over 100 UCL undergraduate degree program mes include study abroad as an integral part of the curriculum.

ACCOMMODATION :

  • All first year undergraduates and overseas first year postgraduates are guaranteed accommodation, subject to firm acceptance of UCL's offer/meeting application deadline.
  • It costs between £87 and £168 per week to live in UCL halls.
