INTRODUCTION :

The University received its Royal Charter in 1966. Its Pharmacy and Pharmacology department is celebrating its centenary in 2007.

In 1976 the university awarded the first sports scholarship in the UK and in 1995 hosted the European Youth Olympics.

Its £35-million Sports Training Village was completed in 2004 and in 2008 played host to a hugely successful UK School Games.

In 1996 the Library and Learning Center became the first 24-hour university library in England.
LOCATION AND TRANSPORT :

The Claverton Campus is 1 mile from the center of the beautiful city of Bath, a World Heritage Site.

The campus buildings are set in landscaped grounds, alongside a wide range of convenient on-site leisure, social and commercial facilities.

The campus is one of the safest in the UK and has been recognized with a national police security award.

A frequent bus service runs from campus to the city, from where there are regular transport links to London and Bristol.

The university seeks the most academically able students from an international recruitment pool.

The average number of UCAS points on entry last year was 324.
STUDENT MIX :

Male students 6,598 (55%): female students 5,367 (45%).

International students 3,032 (25%) (defined as those with non-British domicile).

Home students 8,933 (75%) (those with UK domicile including Channel Islands and Isle of Man).

Last year there were seven home/EU applications per place and 14 overseas applications per place.

80% of undergraduates are recruited from state schools and 20% from public schools.
FEES STRUCTURE :

The tuition fees for full-time UK and other EU students beginning their undergraduate studies at English universities in 2012 have been announced. The average fee across all universities will be £8,393 as compared to that for 2011 entry of £3,375.

To offset this increase in fee levels, there will be additional financial support for students from lower income families and other groups not well represented in higher education. This will be in the form of fee waivers, grants, bursaries and scholarships, and accommodation discounts.

It is a comprehensive package of income and expenditure but most of the media coverage has concentrated on the cost and not enough on the benefits and help.

Students resident in Wales will receive a non-repayable Fee Grant equal to the fee amount above £3,465, no matter where in the UK they study.

An international reputation for research excellence. The research portfolio is valued at nearly £100 million.

Sixty percent of the research work submitted for the 2008 Research Assessment exercise was judged to be 'world leading' or 'internationally excellent', and over two-thirds of our research is ranked in the top ten by the RAE 2008.

STUDENT FACILITIES, INCLUDING LIBRARY AND COMPUTING :

Around 500 computer workstations available for general student use plus laptop docking points as well as connectivity in all student residences.

PCs in the library and learning center are refreshed on a three-year cycle and there is free access to email and internet.

The 24/7 library is one of the busiest in any UK university – it has 21,000 electronic books, 27,000 serial titles, the majority of which are available in electronic format, research databases, and an online publication store.
ACCOMMODATION :

Over 3,300 self-catered study bedrooms located on and off campus. Internet connectivity in all rooms.

First year full-time undergraduate degree students are guaranteed university accommodation if they meet criteria, including application deadlines.

University accommodation costs between £83–£135 per week (£55 per week for a shared room). The average cost of rented accommodation in Bath is £68–£80.
