How to Make Eyeshadow Last Longer Without a Primer

E-mail Print PDF

When you take the time and trouble to apply eyeshadow, you'd like it to stay in place and look fresh throughout the day. One way to do that is to use a primer before you apply your eyeshadow. If you don't like to use a special primer or don't want to spring for the additional cost that is involved in purchasing eyeshadow primer, there are other techniques you can use to keep your eyeshadow from flaking or fading during the day.

Things You'll Need

Concealer stick
Loose translucent powder
Full makeup brush
Cream eyeshadow
Powder eyeshadow
Eyeshadow applicator or brush

Instructions

1. Create a base for your eyeshadow to adhere to by using a concealer stick on your eyelids before applying your eyeshadow. Blend the concealer evenly across your eyelid with your finger or a sponge, and lightly dust it with loose translucent powder on a full makeup brush.

2. Use cream-based eyeshadow to create the look you desire. Cream eyeshadow is more moist than powder and prevents flaking and fading that sometimes happens when you use powdered eyeshadow alone.

3. Use powdered eyeshadow in the same colors as the cream shadow and apply it as a second coat over the cream eyeshadow to intensify your look. Wet the brush or applicator before applying the powdered eyeshadow. The added moisture will create an eyeshadow paint that adheres to your eyelid more easily and lasts longer. The color will also appear deeper and stronger than if you applied it dry.

4. Add a light dusting of translucent powder with a full makeup brush to set your eyeshadow. The powder will protect your eyeshadow and absorb any excess oils as well.
