INTRODUCTION
The University of New South Wales (UNSW), founded in 1949 is a research-focused university. UNSW is recognized as one of Australia’s leading teaching and research institutions, and has developed a strong reputation in a number of fields.

UNSW has expanded rapidly and now has over 50,000 students, including more than 14,000 international students from over 130 different countries. The University offers more than 300 undergraduate and 600 postgraduate programs, and has developed an extensive network of alumni chapters throughout Asia. Over 5,000 full-time staff work in its 76 schools, 69 research centers, six institutes, four teaching hospitals, eight residential colleges and many administrative departments.

APPLYING
Entry into programs offered by UNSW is highly competitive. Admission is based on academic merit and all applicants must be able to provide evidence that they have the potential for university study. Applicants must hold qualifications that are acceptable to UNSW for admission. Applications are assessed on the basis of results achieved in those qualifications and for some degrees, relevant work experience.

ACADEMIC LIFE
The University offers courses in Architecture; Biological Sciences; Business, Management and Marketing; Communications, Media and Journalism; Computer and Information Sciences; Design; Education; Engineering; Environmental Sciences; Foreign Languages and Linguistics; Humanities and Social Sciences; International Relations/Studies; Mathematics and Statistics; Performing Arts; Psychology; Sciences and Visual Arts.

Students may choose to participate in an internship program for credit which helps expose international students to real life professional experiences in Marketing, Political Science, Social Science and Policy, Media Studies, Banking and Finance, Criminal Justice and Biological/Environmental Sciences.

STUDENT LIFE
Internet and Cell Phones are provided to all students. Employment Assistance Program offer students assistance in obtaining a work visa and gaining part time employment in Australia.The work visa allows study abroad participants to work up to 20 hours a week while classes are in session. When classes are on break, students may work an unlimited amount of hours. Local staff arranges various activities for students during the semester designed to help immerse you into the local culture. If you have a specific interest or hobby, your Resident Director will also be able to point you in the right direction.

CAMPUS INFO & SERVICES

Located in Kensington, a suburb of Sydney, UNSW’s main campus lies within a few miles of popular ocean side communities like Coogee Beach. Students enjoy its easy access to a multitude of nearby seaside suburbs and proximity to acres of parklands. While situated close to the stunning coastline, UNSW is less than 5 miles from Sydney’s Central Business District and less than 30 minutes from iconic Sydney Harbor. This modern, semi-urban campus provides extensive student services including: academic skills support; 24-hour computer laboratories; on-campus wireless internet; university email account; on-campus security; health services; disabilities support; counseling service; sports and recreation facilities including 50-meter indoor pool; more than 100 student clubs and societies; library, chaplaincy, cafés and restaurants.
